Lie (verb/no object needed)
To rest or recline in a horizontal position. Pasado: lay | Participio: lain.
“I am exhausted, I need to lie down for a moment.”
Lay (verb/needs an object)
To put or place something down carefully. Pasado: laid | Participio: laid.
“Please lay the book on the table.”
Specially (adverb - purpose)
For a specific and particular purpose.
“This cake was baked specially for your birthday”
Especially (adverb - degree/exception)
To a great extent; particularly above all others.
“I love ice cream, especially chocolate flavor.”
Dinning (verb - noise)
Making a loud, unpleasant, and continuous noise (from the noun "din").
“The alarm was dinning in my ears.”
Dining (verb / noun - eating)
The act of eating a meal, usually formal or in a restaurant.
“We are dining out at a nice restaurant tonight.”
Raise (verb/needs an object)
To lift or move something up.
“Please raise your hand if you know the answer.”
Rise (verb/no object needed)
To move upwards by itself.
“The sun will rise at 6:00 AM tomorrow.
Error (noun - formal / technical)
A formal, technical, or systemic deviation from accuracy.
“The system crashed due to a critical software error.”
Mistake (noun - human / casual)
A human action, decision, or judgment that is wrong.
“I made a mistake on the math test.”
Another (determiner - singular)
One more, or a different one (used with singular and countable nouns).
“Can I have another cup of coffee?”
Other (determiner - plural / uncountable)
Additional or different things/people (used with plural or uncountable nouns).
“Do you have any other questions?”
“Do you have other information?”
Between (preposition - distinct items)
Comparing or connecting distinct, individual items (usually two, but can be more if they are specific).
“I sat between Sarah and John.”
Among (preposition - group)
Part of a group or collective mass (not distinct individuals).
“The treasure was hidden among the trees.”
Scenery (noun - visual / landscape)
The natural visual features of a landscape.
“The scenery in the Swiss Alps is breathtaking.”
Scenario (noun - situation)
A possible situation or sequence of events.
“What is the worst-case scenario if the project fails?”
May (modal verb - higher probability / permission)
A strong possibility of happening, or used to ask permission.
“It may rain tomorrow, look at those dark clouds.”
“May I leave now?”
Might (modal verb - lower probability)
A lower, more remote possibility of happening.
“I might go to the party, but I am very tired so I probably won't.”
Believe (verb - conviction / faith)
To accept something as the truth or have strong faith in it.
“I believe that honesty is the best policy.”
Think (verb - opinion / mental process)
To have an opinion or use your mind to consider something.
“I think it is going to rain later, but I'm not sure.”
Fret
To be constantly or visibly worried or anxious.
“There is no point in fretting about the exam results now; just try to relax.”
Angsty
Feeling a strong sense of anxiety, dread, or teenage frustration.
“He stared out the rain-streaked window with an angsty sigh.”
Astounding
Surprisingly impressive or notable.
“The team managed to finish the massive project at an astounding speed.”
Commonplace
Not unusual; ordinary and expected.
“Working remotely has become quite commonplace in many modern industries.”
Appallingly
To a horrifying or shocking degree; terribly.
“The customer service at that hotel was appallingly bad.”
