Mark 1:1-5
The beginning of the good news about Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God,
as it is written in Isaiah the prophet:
“I will send my messenger ahead of you,
who will prepare your way” —
“a voice of one calling in the wilderness,
‘Prepare the way for the Lord,
make straight paths for him.’ ”
And so John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of
repentance for the forgiveness of sins. The whole Judean countryside and all the
people of Jerusalem went out to him. Confessing their sins, they were baptized by
him in the Jordan River.
Mark 1:16-18
Passing alongside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew the
brother of Simon casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. And Jesus said
to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” And immediately they left
their nets and followed him.
Mark 10:43-45
Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you
must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. For even the
Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom
for many.
Mark 12:14-17
They came to him and said, “Teacher, we know that you are a man of
integrity. You aren’t swayed by others, because you pay no attention to who they are;
but you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. Is it right to pay the
imperial tax to Caesar or not? Should we pay or shouldn’t we?” But Jesus knew their
hypocrisy. “Why are you trying to trap me?” he asked. “Bring me a denarius and let
me look at it.” They brought the [Roman] coin, and he asked them, “Whose image is
this? And whose inscription?” “Caesar’s,” they replied. “Well, then,” Jesus said,
“give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and give to God what belongs to God.” His
reply completely amazed them.
Matthew 6:5-9
And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to
pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly
I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your
room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who
sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on
babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.
Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. “This,
then, is how you should pray: “‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,’”
Matthew 5:16-17
In the same way, let your light shine before others, that
they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. Do not think that I
have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but
to fulfill them
Matthew 7:1
Judge not, lest ye be judged
Matthew 7:6
Do not give what is holy to dogs,
or throw your pearls before swine, lest they trample them underfoot, and turn and tear
you to pieces.
Matthew 16:18
And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my
church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.
Matthew 19:16
It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a
rich man to enter the kingdom of God.
Luke 6:27-31
But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those
who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. If someone
slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do
not withhold your shirt from them. Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone
takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. Do to others as you would have
them do to you.
Luke 15:23-24
“Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate.
For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.” So they
began to celebrate.
Luke 22:19-21
And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them,
saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.” In the same
way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my
blood, which is poured out for you. But the hand of him who is going to betray me is
with mine on the table.
Luke 23:33-34
When they came to the place called the Skull, they crucified him there,
along with the criminals—one on his right, the other on his left. And Jesus said,
“Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” And they cast lots to divide
his garments
John 1:1
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the
Word was God. The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.
John 1:14
We have
seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of
grace and truth.
John 3:16
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever
believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

“Where I am going, you cannot follow now, but you will follow later.”
John 18:36
Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants
would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now my kingdom is from
another place.”
