National Service Training Program (NSTP)
A government-mandated civic education and defense preparedness program for Filipino tertiary students to develop responsibility and community consciousness.
Republic Act 9163 (NSTP Act of 2001)
The law that institutionalized NSTP, signed on January 23, 2002, providing students with options for civic or military service.
Primary Goal of NSTP
To enhance civic consciousness and defense preparedness, and to develop the well-being of the youth while instilling patriotism and nationalism.
Objectives of NSTP

Components of NSTP
ROTC (military training), CWTS (community service and civic projects), and LTS (literacy and numeracy education).
Reserve Officersโ Training Corps (ROTC)
An NSTP component focusing on military training and preparing students as part of the defense reserve force.
Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS)
An NSTP component focusing on community service, volunteerism, and projects that improve quality of life, especially for marginalized communities.
Literacy Training Service (LTS)
An NSTP component that trains students to teach literacy and numeracy to children and out-of-school youth.
Nation-Building (via CWTS)
The process of shaping national identity and sustainable development through citizen participation, with CWTS fostering awareness, volunteerism, leadership, and community impact.
Civic Engagement
Individual or collective actions addressing public issues, promoting holistic education, active citizenship, empowered communities, and inclusive development.
Bayanihan
A Filipino cultural value of communal unity and cooperation, embodied in CWTS and civic engagement.
