What does D.S.S.S.M stand for?

Doors, Seat, Steering, Seat belts, Mirrors

What is step 1 of starting the engine?

Make sure handbrake up; gear leaver in neutral

What is step 2 of starting the engine?

Start engine…

What is step 3 of starting the engine?

Press clutch down to floor

What is step 4 of starting the engine?

Palm towards instructor & select 1st gear

What is step 5 of starting the engine?

Set gas & at same time, release clutch up slowly to biting point

What is step 6 of starting the engine?

(Both feet) hold clutch pedal & keep gas steady
Check all 3 mirrors & blind spot

Step 7 of starting the engine?

Handbrake down, check mirrors again & if safe, gently apply gas & clutch fraction up

Car begins to move

Steer right then left to straighten carS

Final step (8) of starting the engine?

Clutch all the way up

Foot on floor; gently apply gas to move

What is the biting point of the clutch?

Clutch about halfway up, or until engine tone changes - car begins to move

Step 1 of “stopping on the left”?

Check inside mirrors & left door mirror

Signal left, steer to left towards kerb

Step 2 of “stopping on the left”?

Steer right to straighten car

Step 3 of “stopping on the left”?

Put off gas, gently braking, clutch down to floor, brake gently to stop carS

Step 3 of “stopping on the left”?

W/ both feet still on hold, apply handbrake up, fear leave into neutral

Bring both feet to rest

Turn off engine

Motorways, duel carriageways, one-way streets
