Horror v Fantasy

-the outcome of horror is awful, the outcome of fantasy is a return to before with change

-fantasy and horror are parodies of each other

-horror reveals the true nature of the world, fantasy does not

-horror end in aftermath: no more story to tell, fantasy ends in return: the cycle repeats

-horror is final, fantasy has a chance to continue and will

Autumn- wrongness

-already a bad and obvious problem in the world

Winter- thinning

-things have already gotten bad

Ex: Frodo on the journey with the ring

Spring- recognition

-turning point

-a moment when the protagonist knows what to do

-moment of knowledge

Ex: Frodo figures out how to get into Mordor

Summer- return

-the world returns to how it was before but the evil is gone

-prosperity and joy

Ex: ring is destroyed and everyone goes home
