the three assumptions of the behaviourist approach
everyone is born as a blank slate
behaviour is learned from the environment
only observable behaviours can be measured
classical conditioning
when behaviour is learnt through associations
testing into classical conditioning
pavlovs dog
pavlovs dog
the food was the unconditioned stimulus
the bell was the neutral stimulus ( that was later turned into a conditioned stimulus after continuous pairing with the UCS)
operant conditioning
learning through consequence
research into operant conditiong
skinners rats
skinners research into positive reinforcement
he had a leer that released food each time it was pressed
the rat learnt that went it pressed the lever food was dispensed
the rats behaviour was reinforced as he was rewarded wth food
skinners research into negative reinforcement
he had an electric current running through the cage
when the rat pressed the lever the current stopped
the rats behaviour was reinforced because the shoc was taken away
extinction
when the reinforcements stops the behaviour will stop/revert back to normal
