Abstract
A screenshot of a study that addresses the purpose, method, results, or findings of it in a 250 word paragraph. Everything in the abstract will be explained in more detail in the article.
What should you identify when looking at the abstract?
1) Research Question
2) Study Design/Method
3) Key Findings
4) Conclusion
Systematic Review
A comprehensive synthesis of all relevant studies addressing a specific research question.
Meta-Analysis
A statistical method to combine & analyze the results of multiple studies, often within a systematic review.
Population Attributable Fraction (PAF)
Describes the contribution of a risk factors to the burden of disease or death towards a specific population.
Ex: Risk factor for dementia = Low Ed. If Low Ed risk factors was eliminated, how many dementia cases would be prevented?

Summarize key details in the study, facilitate comparison across studies, and overall enhance transparency & reproductibility of the study.
Why are many studies included in Systematic Reviews?
To incrase accuracy & power, account for variation, minimize bias, and to inform policy and practice.
Meta Analysis Purpose
To identify patterns/trends and provide a more recise estimate of effect.
What are some limitations in collecting data?
Variation in methods between studies, small sample sizes, and limited availability of data.
PRISMA Flow Diagram
A visual tool used to show the process of identifying, screening, and selecting studies to include.
Inclsuion Criteria
Everything a study MUST include.
Exclusion Criteria
Factors that would make the study INELIGIBLE to be included.
