what is electrostatics?
study of static electricity or stationary electric charges

causing something to be charged
what is electrification by friction?
two objects of different materials together, ends up with two opposite charges
describe electrification by contact:
one object is neutral, one is charged, these touch and the electrons move from one to another, neutral object will acquire the charge it is touched with
how does an electron move?
from higher negatively to lower negatively
describe electrification by induction:
two objects are not touching, neutral body must be grounded to hold a charge
what is a non-conductor/insulator:
does not allow electrons to freely flow (ex. plastic, hard rubber, glass)
what is a conductor?
allow free flow of electrons/conduct current (ex. silver, copper, aluminum)
what is a semi-conductor?
intermediate, some conditions allow free flow, some do not (ex. silicon)

always ground the distal end, you will end up with opposite charge of what you charged the body with
how do electrons move from a positive distal end - the ground?
electrons move from the ground to the positively charged distal end
how do electrons move from a negative distal end - the ground?
electrons move from the negative distal end to the ground
what is coulombs law?
a force between two unlike charges is directionally proportional to the product of their quantities, and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them
if one charge is doubled, what happens to the force of attraction?
the force of the attraction is doubled
if the distance is doubled, what happens to the force of attraction?
the force is ¼ as great
