ultrasound waves have a frequency higher than
human hearing range
the main thing about how ultrasound waves work is
they partially reflect when at a boundary between two different media
if you know the time taken between probe to item and back you can calculate
the distance between the two
this is done with the equation
distance (s) in meters = speed (v) in m/s x time(t) in seconds
it`s important to remember the equation calculates distance of there and back if you only want one way
divide by 2
ultrasounds medically are used to
scan organs not surrounded by bones/or foetuses
ultrasounds are safer than x ray as
they do not increase risk of cancer or mutations
ultrasound use industrially can be used to
detect flaws in pipes
you would know there’s a flaw if the ultrasound
reflects off the far side of the material faster than normal
what two things can you study in waves
their properties
their path through a structure
how is studying wave path and properties helpful
you can learn properties of the structure that may not be visible with the human eye
