author's craft
the technique, word choice, and storytelling of an author to craft/create a piece of writing.
author's purpose
the reason an author writes about a particular topic (to persuade, to entertain, to inform, to explain, etc) or the reason includes certain words/features to their writing
genre
a category or type of literature (or art, music, etc.) characterized by a particular form, style, or content.
example: fairytale, biography, folktale, poetry, etc.
literary text
written works with artistic value, such as fiction, drama, and poetry
voice
the real or assumed personality used by a writer or speaker which brings the character to life
word choice
the author's thoughtful use of vocabulary to fully convey meaning to the reader
digital text
an electronic text read on a computer screen or other electronic device that may include images, sound, video, and other interactive elements
graphic features
photographs, illustrations, graphs, charts, or other images that help us understand or visualize information in a text
multimodal text
combination of two or more communication modes to create meaning, such as videos, printed text, live performances, and digital texts
primary source
an account of an event created by someone who took part in or witnessed the event (diary, autobiography, photograph, artifact)
secondary source
a secondhand account of an event or a retelling of another person's observations written by someone who did not witness or actually participate in the events (biography)

titles, bulleted lists, captions, subtitles, and bold words which help us better understand a text
