Thoracic Vertebrae
Comprises 12 vertebrae which articulate with ribs.
Typical Vertebrae
Refers to T2-T8, characterized by specific features including a heart-shaped body and a long, slender spinous process.
Atypical Vertebrae
Refers to T1, T9-T12, which have unique characteristics that differ from typical vertebrae.
Spinous Process
A part of the vertebra that is long and slender, providing protection to the spine.
Intervertebral Foramina
Passageways formed by the superior and inferior notches of vertebrae, allowing nerve roots and blood vessels to pass.
Costovertebral Joint
Articulation between a rib and a vertebral body.
Zygapophyseal Joints
Formed by the articulating facets of adjacent vertebrae, allowing for movement and stability.
Pars Interarticularis
Connection between superior and inferior articular processes at the junction of the lamina and pedicle, often a site for fractures.
Scotty Dog
A visual indicator seen in oblique views of the lumbar spine indicating proper positioning.
Lumbosacral Angle
The angle formed between the lumbar spine and sacrum, influenced by the height difference of the lumbar vertebrae.
