Photosynthesis

Photosynthesis is done by plants, algae, and some bacteria to make food using sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide. Photosynthesis happens in the chloroplasts of plant and algae cells.

6CO₂ + 6H₂O + light energy → C₆H₁₂O₆ + 6O₂

Carbon dioxide + water + sunlight → glucose + oxygen

Cellular respiration

Cellular respiration is the process cells use to turn food into energy. It is used by plants, animals, fungi, and many microorganisms. It usually happens in the mitochondria.

C₆H₁₂O₆ + 6O₂ → 6CO₂ + 6H₂O + ATP (energy)

Glucose + oxygen → carbon dioxide + water + energy (ATP)
