Life History (2)
traits affecting when an organism reproduces and survived + Lifecycle
Variables of Life History
Age of when they mate, how often they reproduce, # of babies every time they mate
Costs of reproduction
Less reproductive potential because of obstacles (can’t reproduce repeatedly, make a big family, care and compete, escape predators and get food easily)
Semelparity
focus on reproducing once then die (many young, less stable environment)
Iteroparity
produce offspring multiple times over seasons (less offspring but bigger size, stable environment)
r strategist
early 1st reproduction, and many offspring, no parents, short lives and prone to extinction
k strategist
reproduce when older, less offspring, parents, long generations
Population crash
population greater than carrying capacity
population density (dependent)
affect a population the more it grows (competition)
population density (independent)
affects population regardless of size (weather)
Population dynamics
changes in population due to biotic and abiotic factors
