anatomy vs. physiology
anatomy: study of body structures
physiology: study of how those body structures work to keep an organism alive
what are the various clinical procedures for assessing the anatomy of a patient?

Positron emission tomography (PET) scan
method of producing a computerized image of the physiological state of a tissue using injected radioisotopes that emit positrons

production of an image of the interior of the body through an ultrasound

anatomical position

axial vs. appendicular region

dorsal vs. ventral body cavity
dorsal: cavity towards the back of the body; contains the brain + spinal cord
ventral: cavity towards the front of the body; contains thoracic + abdominopelvic cavities

1) cranial cavity - brain
2) vertebral/spinal cavity - spinal cord

1) thoracic cavity - heart, lungs, other structures of the chest

visceral: layer that covers the organ surface
parietal: layer that lines the cavity wall
