Hypothesis

A possible explanation, answer to a question, or solution to a problem.

Experiment

Testing the effect of one thing on another using a control.

Variables

Factors that can cause a change in the results of an experiment.

Dependent Variable

Its value changes according to changes in other variables (the effect).

Independent Variable

Changed to see how it affects the dependent variable (the cause).

Constants

Factors in an experiment that do not change

Control

Used to compare the results of the experiment.

Bias

When expectations influence how the results are viewed.

Models

Represent an idea, event, or object to help people better understand it.

Theory

A way of explaining things or events based on what has been learned from many observations and investigations. Explain why and how laws work.

Scientific Law

A statement about what happens in nature and seems to be true all the time. Does not explain why or how it happens.
