Antigens
Molecules on the erythrocyte membrane.
Antibodies
Molecules in plasma that bind antigens.
Agglutination
The clumping of erythrocytes.
A+ Blood type
Contains A and Rh antigens, contains anti-B antibodies, and agglutinates with anti-A and anti-Rh.
A- Blood type
Contains A antigens, contains anti-B and anti-Rh antibodies, and agglutinates with anti-A.
B+ Blood type
Contains B and Rh antigens, contains anti-A antibodies, and agglutinates with anti-B and anti-Rh.
B- Blood type
Contains B antigens, contains anti-A and anti-Rh antibodies, and agglutinates with anti-B.
AB+ Blood type
Contains A, B, and Rh antigens, has no antibodies, and agglutinates with anti-A, anti-B, and anti-Rh.
AB- Blood type
Contains A and B antigens, contains anti-Rh antibodies, and agglutinates with anti-A and anti-B.
O+ Blood type
Contains Rh antigens only, contains anti-A and anti-B antibodies, and agglutinates with anti-Rh.
O- Blood type
Contains no antigens, contains anti-A, anti-B, and anti-Rh antibodies, and results in no agglutination.
Rh+ Compatibility
Patients with this blood status can receive both Rh+ and Rh- blood.
Rh- Compatibility
Patients with this blood status can receive Rh- blood only.

Agglutination Shortcut: anti-Rh
Presence of agglutination indicates the patient is Positive (+); absence indicates they are Negative (-).
O+ to O- Transfusion
Can be performed ONCE.
A+ to A- Transfusion
Can be performed ONCE.
AB- to A- Transfusion
NO (Not a permissible transfusion).
