OT Eval: Terms and Process

Purpose of the Eval

• establish client priorities

• gather info to make informed decisions about next steps

• supports development of intervention

• identifies client needs and justification for service

Screening

• 1st part of the eval

• going through a clients chart

• NOT billed (don’t put hands on client)

• see if further evaluation is necessary

Evaluation

• obtaining and interpreting the data needed through using professional reasoning, standardized tools which are then interpreted

• starts with the occ profile

Assessment

• tool you use and is part of an eval

  • ex. Barthel Index

Reevaluation

• review of client performance at any other time and is ongoing

• only reporting things that are new and ADD to occ profile

Reassessment

• using original tool and administer it again

Outcome

• varies from setting to setting

• measures if therapy was successful or not

An effective eval is

• occupation based

• client-centered

• evidence based
