Modulus of Toughness
Indicates maximum amount of strain-energy the material can absorb just before it fractures
Modulus of Resilience
Represents the largest amouont of internal strain energy per unit volume the material can absorb without causing any permanent damage
Modulus of Elasticity
Which term describes the ratio of tensile or compressive stress to the corresponding longitudinal strain within the elastic limit of a material
Modulus of Rigidity
Which property represents the ratio of shear stress to the resulting shear strain, indicating the material’s resistance to angular distortion
Homogeneous Material
Materials that have the same physical and mechanical properties throughout their volume. It is a material that has the same composition at any point.
Ductility
Refers to the ability of a material to deform in the plastic range without breaking
Rupture strength
The stress at failure
Ultimate strength
Highest ordinate in a stress-strain diagram
Yield strength
The material will have an appreciable elongation or yielding without corresponding increase in load
Hardness
Measure of material’s ability to resist indentation or penetration
Stiffness
Ability to resist deformation within the linear range. It is the inverse of flexibility
Toughness
Material’s resistance to fracture
