What are the two main divisions of the nervous system?
Central Nervous System (CNS) and Peripheral Nervous System (PNS)
What type of nervous system do cnidarians have?
Nerve net, with no central control.
What is the function of glial cells in the CNS?
Provide support, produce myelin, and maintain the blood-brain barrier.
What are the three types of glial cells mentioned?
Microglia, Astrocytes, and Ependymal cells.
What do oligodendrocytes do?
They myelinate several axons in the CNS.
Which part of the nervous system is responsible for reflex actions?
The spinal cord.
What are the two types of neurons in the PNS?
Afferent (sensory) neurons and Efferent (motor) neurons.
What does the sympathetic nervous system control?
The 'fight or flight' response.
What role does the hypothalamus play in the brain?
It regulates the pituitary gland and controls hunger and thirst.
What is the predominant function of the cerebellum?
Coordination of movement and balance.
What connects the left and right hemispheres of the brain?
