By state law you are required to wear eye protection in the lab area at all times.
Report all accidents, injuries, or any emergency situation, even if very small, to your teacher immediately.
If required to wear special clothing items, keep them clean, neat and buttoned or tied at all times. Avoid wearing long sleeves, neckties, jewelry, and loose-fitting clothing while operating power machines. Wear your hair at a length which will not be a safety hazard.
No “horseplay”, running, or throwing will be tolerated in the lab.
Respect the rights and property of other students and do not tamper with their projects or machine set-ups.
Use the correct tools for the job and do not carry them in your pocket. Keep tools and other objects away from the edge of the workbenches.
Do not use a broken or damaged tool or a machine; show them to your teacher.
Use no power equipment without your teacher’s permission. Get instructors approval on all work before you start.
Follow your teacher’s instructions, safety precautions, and printed operational rules for each machine. Each machine has printed safety precautions posted on the wall behind it.
Do not clean, adjust, or oil any machine when it is in motion. Make sure the power is disconnected when working on any machine.
Keep your work area neat and uncluttered. Keep scrap material off the floor. Be certain that you have safe footing for the job or operation you are doing.
Ask your teacher for help when needed. Don’t try to do a two-person job by yourself. Work with or help another student only when the teacher tells you to do
Observe and respect all restricted or dangerous areas. All machine areas are marked with bold yellow paint, trimmed with a yellow and black warning tape. Only one person operates a machine at any one time. No other person should be around the machine being used except the operator.
Arrange electrical cords to eliminate tripping hazards. Electrical drop cords should be retracted slowly.
Keep vise jaws closed, but not tight. (handles hanging down)
Machines should not be operated while the instructor is out of the lab.
Scrap material should not be removed from near the cutting blade of any machine with your fingers. Allow the machine to come to a complete stop and then remove the scrap material with a push stick.
Keep your mind and your eyes on the operation being performed. Avoid distractions.
