what is implicit (non-declarative) memory?
non-declarative memory. recall of information just happens and is not concious
what are the 2 types of implicit memory?
procedural and emotional
what is procedural memory?
skills or actions that are hard to explain in words. it is doing things without trying (eg: driving a car). with practice, conscious effort is not required
what is emotional memory?
memories recalled as a result of strong emotional triggers.
what is Explicit (Declarative) memory?
the conscious, intentional recall of factual information
what are the 2 branches of declarative memory
semantic and episodic
what is semantic memory?
memory of general, impersonal facts/concepts (eg: elephants are grey, capital city names)
what is episodic memory?
memory of personally significant events (school camps, birthday parties)
what is the difference between semantic and episodic memory?
semantic memories are impersonal factual knowledge. episodic memories are personally significant events
