Agricultural Adjustment Act (AAA)
Protected farmers from price drops by providing crop subslides to reduce production, educational programs to teach methods of preventing soil erosion. Enacted in 1933.
Civil Works Administration (CWA)
Provided public works jobs at $15/week to four million workers in 1934. Enacted in 1933
Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC)
Sent 250,000 young men to work camps to perform reforestation and conservation tasks. Removed surplus of workers from cities, provided healthy conditions for boys, provided money for families. Enacted in 1933
Federal Emergency Relief Act (FERA)
Distributed millions of dollars of direct aid to unemployed workers. Enacted in 1933
Glass-Steagall Act (FDIC)
Created federally insured bank deposits ($2500 per investor at first) to prevent bank failures. Enacted in 1933
National Industrial Recovery Act (NIRA)
Created NRA to enforce codes of fair competition, minimum wages, and to permit collective bargaining of workers. Enacted in 1933
Fair Labor Standards Act
Established the following - Federal minimum wage; overtime pay (time and a half) for wage earners working more than 40 hours a week. Also prohibited work by children under the age of 14. Enacted in 1937
Public Works Administration (PWA)
Recieved $3.3 billion appropriation from Congress for public works projects. Enacted in 1933
Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)
Regulated Stock market and restricted margin buying. Enacted in 1934
Social Security Act
Response to critics (Dr. Townsend and Huey Long), it provided pensions, unemployment insurance, and to aid to blind, deaf, disabled, and dependent children. Enacted in 1935
Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA)
Federal government build series of dams to prevent flooding and sell electricty. First public competition with private power industries. Enacted in 1933
Wagner Act (NLRB)
Allowed workers to join unions and outlawed union-busting tactics by management. Enacted in 1935
Works Progress Administration (WPA)
Employed 8.5 million workers in construction and other jobs, but more importantly provided works in arts, theater, and literary projects. Enacted in 1935
