Dura Mater
The outermost layer of the meninges, known for being the toughest.
Meninges
A triple-layer sac that includes the dura, arachnoid, and pia layers that protect the brain.
Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF)
A water-like substance that cushions the brain and is produced in the ventricular system.
Ventricular System
A system of liquid-filled spaces in the brain consisting of four ventricles and associated pathways.
Hydrocephalus
A condition caused by increased pressure in the ventricles due to obstruction in the cerebrospinal fluid flow.
Choroid Plexus
Specialized tissue in the ventricles that produces cerebrospinal fluid (CSF).
Arachnoid
The middle layer of the meninges, which includes the arachnoid membrane and the subarachnoid space.
Pia Mater
The delicate, innermost layer of the meninges that is directly attached to the brain.
Meningitis
Inflammation of the protective membranes (meninges) due to infection or autoimmune reactions.
Cerebral Aqueduct
A tube connecting the third and fourth ventricles, through which cerebrospinal fluid flows.
