Operational definition of a concept or a construct—something we MEASURE
Self-efficacy
Confidence a person feels to execute certain behaviors including confidence in overcoming barriers to performing that behavior
Mastery Experience
successful past performance (self-efficacy depend on this)
Vicarious Experience
Through modeling of the behavior by others who are perceived similar allows confidence to be gained ( self-efficacy depends on this)
Vicarious Experience
People convinced vicariously to their inefficacy are inclined to behave in ineffectual ways that, in fact, generate confirmatory behavioral evidence of inability
social (verbal) persuasion
Encouraging or discouraging remarks from trustworthy persons who opinions are respected(self-efficacy depends on this)
Modeling
Have someone else do the behavior for them (build self-efficacy)
Skills training
Person is done to do the behavior and enhances their want to practice behavior (build self-efficacy)

People change in incremental steps and is not linear.
Pre-contemplation (trans model)
Do not intend to change or take action in the foreseeable future (6 months)
Contemplation (trans model)
Thinking about changing but have not committed to take action. Aware of pros and costs
Preparation (trans model)
Have decided to make a change and use time to make a plan, obtain skills and. Enact the plan.
Action (trans model)
specific overt behavior modification is made to lifestyle within the past six months
Maintenance (trans model)
Specific overt behavior modification has been in place for at least 6months and people are trying to maintain healthy behavior
Termination (trans model)
Individuals no longer give into temptations
