Board

The ship's deck (boong tàu).

On board

To be on the vessel (trên tàu).

Bosun (BSN)

The boatswain or deck crew chief (thủy thủ truởng).

Cadet

A trainee officer (sỹ quan thực tập).

Captain / Master

The commanding officer of a vessel (thuyền trưởng).

Chief Engineer (C/E)

The head of the ship's engine department (máy trưởng).

Chief officer (C/O)

The second-in-command of a vessel (đại phó).

Identity card (ID card)

A document used for identification (giấy chứng minh).

Ordinary seaman (OS)

A deck crew member responsible for maintenance (thủy thủ bảo quản).

Able seaman (AB)

A qualified seaman for watchkeeping duties (thủy thủ trực ca).

Seaman’s book

An official record book for a seafarer (sổ nhật ký thuyền viên).

Surveyor

An official who inspects vessels (đăng kiểm viên).

Vessel

A ship or large boat (tàu).

M/V Morning Star

A motor vessel named Morning Star.

Ratings

The non-officer crew members of the lowest rank (thuỷ thủ có cấp bậc thấp nhất).

Bridge / Wheelhouse

The navigation center and control room of a ship (buồng lái).

Engine room

The compartment containing a ship's machinery (buồng máy).

Noon

Midday, specifically at the time of $1200\,pm$.

Midnight

The middle of the night, specifically at $1200\,am$.

Cabin

A living compartment or room on a ship (buồng ở).

Galley

The kitchen area on a vessel (bếp).

Lounge

The vessel's club or social room for guests and crew (phòng khách).

Messroom

The ship's dining room (phòng ăn).

Ballast

Water used to stabilize a ship (nước dằn).

Pumpman

The person responsible for operating the ship's pumps (thợ bơm).

Poop deck

The deck located at the stern or rear of the vessel (boong đuôi).

Breathing apparatus

Devices used to assist or provide breathing in hazardous environments (mặt nạ thở).

Embarkation station

Designated meeting point, also known as a lifeboat or muster station (điểm tập kết).

Fire extinguisher

A handheld tool used to put out small fires (bình chữa cháy).

Immersion suit

A thermal, waterproof suit for survival in water (quần áo giữ nhiệt).

Nautical mile (NM)
