Life Skills
Abilities for adaptive and positive behaviour that enable individuals to deal effectively with demands and challenges of life.
Goal
Something you try to achieve; goals are different from wishes because action is required to achieve them.
Short-term Goals
Goals that can be achieved in a short time, typically within a week or month.
Medium-term Goals
Goals that are usually achieved in 1 to 3 years.
Long-term Goals
Aims that are to be achieved in 3 years or more, also referred to as life goals.
SMART Goals
A framework for setting goals that are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Timely.
Perseverance
The determination to keep trying to do something difficult.
Persistence
The continued effort to do something despite difficulties or opposition.
Coping Strategies
Plans used to manage stress and improve well-being in challenging situations.
Resilience
The ability to adapt well in the face of adversity, trauma, or significant sources of stress.
Evaluation
The process of drawing on knowledge and judgment to determine the significance of something.
Prioritising
The act of arranging or dealing with things in order of importance.
Values
Principles that guide how individuals make decisions and live their lives.
Public Participation
Involvement in community activities such as voting, attending meetings, and joining organizations.
Democracy
A system of government in which the citizens exercise power directly or elect representatives.
Governance
The way a country is controlled or managed by the people in authority.
Power Relations
The dynamics of control between individuals or groups in a relationship.
Gender Stereotyping
Assuming that someone behaves a certain way based on their gender.
NQF
National Qualifications Framework; a system regulating qualifications in South Africa.
SAQA
South African Qualifications Authority; responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of the NQF.
Further Education and Training (FET)
Education that provides vocational or occupational training in specific fields.
Admission Point Score (APS)
A scoring system based on marks obtained in national examinations for admission into higher education.
