What is the concept of place?
Place refers to location that has been given meaning by individuals or groups through lived experiences,emotions and social processes
Beyond physical location to include human perception,idenity and attachment

Space:A physical area with no meaning attached
Place:Space that has been given meaning through human experiences,relationships or understanding
Why is place important in human life and experience?
Provide a sense of idenity and belonging

What is an insider perspective on place?
The viewpoint of someone who is familiar with a place,feels a sense of belonging and idenitifies with it
-understand local norms,language and culture
What is an outsider perspecive on place?
The viewpoint of someone who feels excluded form a place-often unfamiliar with its social or cultural meanings
What can influence whether someone feels like an insider or outsider?
Age,gender,ethnicity,length of resdency
What are near places?
Places that are geologically close to where a person lives, often well-known and personally experienced, could also refer to emotional closeness, not just distance.
What are far places?
Places that are distant-either physically or emotionally
Globalisation and media mean people can now have strong attachments to far places
What are experienced places?
Places that an individual has personally visited or interacted with, forming direct emotional connections
What are media places?
Places that people know through representations in media rather that direct experience can create an idealised perception.
What is meant by the character of the place?
The distincitve identity of a place resulting from interaction of physical and human factors what makes one place different from another
