Adab
Originating from the Arabic word "ta’dib," it refers to being polite, well-mannered, refined in character, and having noble language.
Adat Resam
Customs inherited across generations that become a standard rule or regulation to be followed by a specific community or ethnic group.
Adat Istiadat
A variety of customs and official ceremonies that follow strict and formal protocols, such as royal installations or official weddings.
Etika (Ethics)
Derived from the Greek word "ethos," it is the study of good and bad behavior based on human reason and moral principles.
Akhlak
A system of conduct rooted in Divine Revelation (al-Quran and al-Sunnah) that evaluates both the internal intentions and external actions of a human being.
Moral
The practical application of behavior judged as good or bad according to human reason, typically viewed as relative, subjective, and temporary.
Etos (Ethos)
The distinct characteristics, identity, and aspirations of a nation or culture that reflect its philosophy and civilization.
Etiket (Etiquette)
Social rules and regulations concerning politeness and decorum practiced in social life or specific professions.
Peradaban (Civilization)
The system and stage of social development, progress, and cultural advancement of a nation.
Prakolonial (Pre-colonial)
The era before European arrival where the Malay Archipelago practiced a form of ethics consisting of adab, adat istiadat, and adat resam.
Kolonial (Colonial)
The era of European colonization during which modern Western ethics, dress, administration, and education were introduced.
Pascakolonial (Post-colonial)
The modern era characterized by a mixture of traditional ethics and modern Western ethics integrated within the Malaysian framework.
Imaginasi Sosiologikal (Sociological Imagination)
A concept by C. Wright Mills used to research and understand society by analyzing the intersection of history, social structure, and biography.
Struktur Sosial (Social Structure)
The formal and informal social systems and relationships within a community that drive the dynamics of society.
Biografi (Biography)
A person's life story or "riwayat" that is shaped by and can simultaneously shape history and social structures.
