Base Word

most basic form of a word that can stand alone

Root word

• comes from greek or latin

• similar to the base word but often cannot stand alone

Affix

word parts that change the meaning of a root or a base word

Prefix

letter or group of letters added to the beginning of a word to make a new word

Suffix

letter or groups of letters added to the end of a word or root to change its function
