Criteria A (Autism)
Persistent deficits in social communication, non verbal communication and social interaction.
Criteria B (Autism)
Restricted, repetitive patterns of behavior, interests, or activities.
Neurodiversity
We each have different neurology, brain function, and nervous systems. Neurodiversity / neurodiverse is a term that describes all human neurological diversity, including neurotypicality.
Neurodivergence
Neurodivergent people have shared features that differ from what is defined as "normative" or "neurotypical". Different types of neurodivergence are called “neurotypes”.
Social model of disability
Problem is in the interaction between the person and environment. Barriers in the environment are the problem.
Masking
Hiding/changing your authentic self to fit neurotypical social expectations and norms, often learnt in order to attract less negative attention, takes constant effort
Camouflaging
Copying behaviours to present as more 'normal'

Childhood Autism Rating Scale (CARS2)
Observation instrument for children over 2 years. Consists of 15 four-point scales where a child’s behaviour is rated for chronological age.

Semi-structured, standardized assessment of communication, social interaction, play, and restricted and repetitive behaviours.
