What happened during the Ancient Period?
3 dances happened namely:
Egyptian - religious rituals and celebrations.
Greek - integral to ceremonies and theater where peasants are the one who dances to entertain the rich.
Roman - influenced by Greek tradition, used in spectacles and entertainment also but more violent.
What happened during the Medieval Period?
European - peasant traditions (to make their life more fun or less unfortunate), seasonal festival
Court (cuz king & queen is watching) - nobility and royalty, later basis for ball dance.
What happened during the Renaissance Period?
Ballet Origins - emerged from Italian courts and then later developed in France
Dance Masters - professional instructors, creation of dance manual

Court Ballet - flourished under LOUIS XIV (14th) where the establishment of Royal Academy of Dance in France occured
Ballet d’ Action - under JEAN-GEORGES, dramatic and expressive ballet that tell a story

Romantic Ballet - focused on ethereal, supernatural themes
Classic Ballet - Marius Petipa’s choreography (Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake) formal techniques, graceful movements
