Patsys Origin Story
In 1947, Randy Norton and Jim Farley opened Picco's a 16 table pizza place in the city of Fairax, VA. Mike Ranney joined them a year later. With opening of Fantastic Fritzbe's Flying Food Factory (now silverado) in 1976, Great American Restaurants was born. Over past 50 years, their partnership thrived because of their entrepreneurial spirit, enthusiasm for hospitality, and a ton of hard work by thousands of the best team players in the industry.
Great American Restaurant summary
GAR owns and operates 14 restaurants, 3 artisan bakeries, and a BBQ spot in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. We are a local group, truly dedicated to our mission of being the world's best operator of casual restaurants. Drinking limit
GARStars are encouraged to limit themselves to no more than 3 drinks when in a GAR restaurant or bar
Drinking while on shift
strictly prohibited, immediate termination
After-shift drinking guidelines
no bags or uniforms in the bar area, not allowed to enter kitchen after consuming alcohol, may not return to work after drinking on the same day
Closing & post-shift drinking rules
drinking while closing is not allowed, can't consume alcohol in restaurant after the close of business
additional drinking restrictions
bartenders are not permitted to use promo or friends checks for garstars
Drugs guidelines
Zero tolerance, manager is allowed to ask you to take a substance use test, refusal results in resignation
Smoking guidelines
smoke free dining rooms, indoor bars, and outdoor seating areas in all our restaurants
Terminable offenses
altering tip, questioning a guest about tip, being rude to a guest, employee disobedience, theft, violent language/behavior, illegal substances, intoxication, serving alcohol to a minor or obviously intoxicated guest, drinking underage, not adhering to core values, harassment, habitual tardiness, absence, conflict
Shift changes
1. Release shift in hot schedules. ask other garstars to pick up shift
2. once shift is picked up, you will get notif that the shift has been picked up
3. manager needs to approve pick ups or swaps 24 hours prior
Tardiness policy
GARStars are expected to be in full uniform and ready to work at scheduled clock in time. if running late, call restaurant and ask to speak with a manger so we can plan accordingly
Restroom checks
before you leave the restroom, you must perform a restroom check after washing your hands. includes:
- wiping all excess water from the counter top with a paper towel
- wiping all mirrors
- picking up any trash on the floor
- ensuring that the restroom looks outstanding
- rewashing your hands after completing the restroom check
safety precautions
- always give guests the right of way
- announce presence to prevent bumping using phrases like "on your left", "behind you" or "corner"
- yield to those with heavy load
- clean up spills immediately
- use broom and dustpan to sweep up broken shards
- never use a glass as an ice scoop
- never stack glasses in your hands
- use equipment properly
- if guest has an incident, it is important that you express concern by saying " are you hurt? can i help you?" never admit fault by saying "its all my fault" or "We'll take care of everything"
- report all accidents to manager immediately
entering & leaving the restaurant
- must enter and leave thru front door
- enter wearing jeans, bring shirt on hanger from the dry cleaners
- when leaving, either remain in full uni or change into an appropriate shirt
- if you leave the restaurant after dark, you MUST have a buddy walk you to your car. then you must drive them back to the restaurant

GAR accepts online reservations using RESY. guests can make reservations by using the RESY app or by visiting our website
phone reservations
guests can also call ahead to the restaurant to ask for a wait time/availability and have a reservation made for them over the phone
