Explain the purpose of and the process of conducting a hazard analysis.
The purpose of a hazard analysis is to determine what risks are present before an accident occurs to minimize the potential for injury, death, and/or property damage. The first step in conducting a hazard analysis is to identify all hazards that pose a danger to any person/people. The second step of a hazard analysis is evaluating the risk level for each identified hazard. This is done by assessing the potential danger from the hazard (consequences), how likely an individual is to encounter the hazard (exposure, and the likelihood of the hazard occurring (probability). The third step in a hazard analysis is to implement corrective measures. Evaluating the risk level for each hazard allows a prioritized list of hazards to be created so as to focus on the most concerning ones first.
