Body Planes
Are imaginary planes that subdivide the body in reference to anatomic position
Sagittal plane
-is any longitudinal plane that divides right and left parts
Midsagittal plane
-divides the body into equal right and left parts. It passes approximately through the sagittal suture of the skull.
Coronal plane
is any longitudinal plane that divides the body into anterior and posterior parts.
Midcoronal plane
-divides the body into approximately equal anterior and posterior parts. It is called a coronal plane because it passes approximately through the coronal suture of the skull.
Horizontal plane
- is any transverse plane that passes through the body at right angles to a longitudinal plane, divid ing the body into superior and inferior portions.
Oblique plane
-is a longitudinal or transverse plane that is at an angle or slant and. is not parallel to the sagittal, coronal, or horizontal plane
Transpyloric plane
- is an Imaginary horizontal plane, located halfway between the suprasternal notch of the manubrium and the upper border of the symphysis pubis at the level of the first lumbar vertebrae, L1.
Interiliac Plane
- A plane that transects the pelvis at the Top of the iliac crest at the level of the 4th lumbar spinous process
Occlusal Plane
formed by the biting surfaces of the upper and Lower teeth with the jaws closed.
pelvis, l4 spinous process
