Cell
The smallest unit of life.
Organelles
The functional parts of the cell that carry out specific jobs.
Cell Membrane
A phospholipid bilayer that makes up the boundary of the cell.
Nucleus
An organelle that functions to house and protect DNA.Found only in Eukaryotic cells.
Mitochondria
An organelle that produces ATP through breaking down glucose. Found only in Eukaryotic
Chloroplast
An organelle that makes glucose through photosynthesis. Found only in Eukaryotic
Ribosome
An organelle responsible for making proteins. Found in both prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells.
Lysosome
An organelle that breaks down toxins.
Golgi Apparatus / Complex
An organelle that packages and transports molecules out of the cell.
Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER)
An organelle that transports proteins through the cell.
Eukaryotic Cell
A complex, often multicellular cell containing DNA, organelles, and a true nucleus, commonly found in plants, animals, or fungi.
Prokaryotic Cell
A simple, usually single-celled organism (mostly bacteria) that contains DNA but lacks a defined nucleus.
Eu- (Root Word)
