Irregular Plurals
Nouns that do not follow standard rules for pluralization and change form entirely (e.g., 'child' to 'children').
Closed Syllable
A syllable that ends with a consonant, causing the vowel sound to be short (e.g., 'cat').
Open Syllable
A syllable that ends with a vowel, resulting in a long vowel sound (e.g., 'go').
VCe Syllable (Magic E)
A syllable pattern where a vowel is followed by a consonant and a silent 'e', which makes the vowel sound long (e.g., 'make').
Vowel Teams
Two vowels that together make one sound (e.g., 'ai' in 'rain').
R-controlled Syllable
A syllable where a vowel is followed by an 'r', which alters the vowel sound (e.g., 'car').
Final Stable Syllable

Preposition

Conjunction
A word that connects clauses, sentences, or words (e.g., 'and', 'but', 'or').
Interjection
A word or phrase that expresses strong emotion or sudden exclamation (e.g., 'Wow!', 'Hey!').
Affixes
Letters or groups of letters added to the beginning (prefix) or end (suffix) of a word to modify its meaning.

The process of converting written symbols into spoken words, typically reading.
Encoding
The process of converting spoken language into written symbols, typically writing.
Simile
A figure of speech that compares two different things using 'like' or 'as' (e.g., 'as brave as a lion').
Personification
Attributing human qualities or characteristics to non-human entities (e.g., 'the wind whispered through the trees').
Metaphor
A figure of speech that directly compares one thing to another for rhetorical effect (e.g., 'time is a thief').
Alliteration
The repetition of the same initial consonant sound in a series of words (e.g., 'She sells sea shells by the sea shore').
Idiom
A phrase or expression that has a figurative meaning different from its literal meaning (e.g., 'kick the bucket' means to die).
