What are the types of medicals
1st class, 2nd class, 3rd class, basic med
What is the first class medical?
Required if conducting a flight requiring an Airline Transport Pilot certificate for PIC privileges
40 or older expires every 6 months
Under 40 expires every 12 months
What is the 2nd class medical?
Required for commercial pilots
Expires every 12 months regardless of age
What is the 3rd class medical?
Required for all other pilot certifications
40 and older expires every 24 months
Under 40 expires every 60 months
What is basicmed?
Possess a US drivers license, have held a medical after July 14th, 2006
Get an exam done
Complete the basicmed course and save the medical cert in your logbook
Cannot carry more than 7 occupants
Has a maximum certified takeoff weight of not more than 12,500 pounds
Carries no more than 6 passengers
Operates under VFR or IFR in the US at or below 18,000 feet MSL not exceeding 250 knots
Cannot fly for compensation or hire
Private pilots, CFI’s, and pilot examiners can use BasicMed.
What is hypoxia?
A lack of oxygen to the brain
Hypoxic hypoxia
Insufficient oxygen available to the body
Hypemic hypoxia
Reduction of the oxygen carrying capacity of the blood
Stagnant hypoxia
Blood isn’t flowing to all parts of the body
Hystotoxic hypoxia
The cells can’t absorb the available oxygen in the blood. Alcohol and drugs can cause this type
What are some symptoms of hypoxia
Headache, dizziness, lightheadedness blue lips or fingertips, euphoria, fatigue, and numbness in the body
What is hyperventilation?
Having an excessive breathing rate which leads to an abnormal loss of carbon dioxide
