Rectilinear motion
Motion along a straight line.
Oscillatory motion
Motion that repeats itself at regular intervals (periodic motion).
Circular motion
Motion along a circular path or around a center.
SI unit of length
Meter (m), the base unit of length in the International System of Units.
Ruler
A straight-edged instrument used to measure length, usually marked in cm or inches.
Measuring tape
A flexible measuring device used to measure around curves or body surfaces.
Rest
A state in which an object does not change its position with respect to a reference frame.
Motion
A change in an object's position over time with respect to a reference frame.
Arc length
The length of a curved path traced by an object; can be measured with string along the curve and then measured.
Relative motion
Motion observed from a chosen frame of reference; something can be at rest in one frame and in motion in another.
Curved path
A non-straight path that bends or curves, such as the arc of a pendulum.
Rotational motion
Motion of an object rotating around a fixed axis.
Needle oscillation
Up-and-down or back-and-forth movement of a sewing machine needle (oscillatory motion).
Cubit
An ancient, non-standard unit of length based on forearm length; not used as a modern standard.
Inches
A unit of length in the imperial system; 1 inch equals 2.54 cm.
Centimeters
A unit of length in the metric system; 1 cm = 0.01 m.
Unit conversion
Converting a measurement from one unit to another to maintain consistency.
Standard unit of length
A universally accepted unit for length (meter in the SI system).
Inconsistent units problem
When different parts of a task use different units (e.g., inches and centimeters), parts may not fit unless converted.
Responsibility
A value showing accountability; acting to report hazards and seek safe solutions.
Safety awareness
A value of recognizing hazards and taking precautions to avoid danger.
