Skull
The bony structure that forms the head and encases the brain, consisting of the cranial and facial bones.
Cranial bones
The eight bones that form the protective casing of the brain.
Facial bones
The fourteen bones that form the structure of the face.
Sutures
Fibrous joints that connect the bones of the skull.
Maxilla
The upper jawbone that holds the upper teeth and forms part of the orbits.
Mandible
The lower jawbone; the only movable bone of the skull.
Zygomatic bone
The bone that forms the prominence of the cheek.
Nasal bone
Two small bones that form the bridge of the nose.
Frontal bone
The bone that forms the forehead and the upper part of the eye sockets.
Occipital bone
The bone that forms the back and base of the skull.
Temporal bone
The bones located at the sides and base of the skull.
Parietal bone
The bones that form the top and sides of the skull.
Ethmoid bone
A light and spongy bone that forms part of the eye sockets and nasal cavity.
Sphenoid bone
A bat-shaped bone that forms part of the base of the skull and contributes to the eye sockets.
Lacrimal bone
Small bones located in the medial wall of each orbit, involving tear production.
Palatine bone
Bones that form part of the hard palate and contribute to the floor of the nasal cavity.
