Ipsilateral
Structures on the same side of the body
Contralateral
Structures on the opposite side of the body
Internal Rotation
Medial rotation towards the midline of the body
External Rotation
Lateral rotation away from the center of the body
Dorsiflexion
The movement which decreases the angle between the dorsum (superior surface) of the foot & the leg, so that the toes are brought closer to the shin (toes up)
Plantarflexion
The movement which increases the angle between the dorsum (superior surface) of the foot & the shin (toes down)
Eversion
The movement of the sole of the foot towards from the midline of the body
Abduction
Refers to a motion that pulls a structure or part away from the midline of the body
Adduction
Refers to a motion that pulls a structure or part toward the midline of the body
Flexion
Describes a bending movement that decreases the angle between two parts
Extension
Describing a straightening movement that increases the angle between body parts
Pronation
Motion of rotating so that the ventral surface faces downward
Supination
Motion of rotating so that the ventral surface faces upward
Circumduction
Circular movement of a limb or eye
