Beaker
An open cylindrical container with a pouring lip; used for mixing larger amounts of substances

Graduated Cylinder
Used to measure volume of liquids - more precise than a beaker (increments are smaller than a beaker)

Erlenmeyer Flask
Used to hold liquids, has narrow neck to prevent splashes; flat bottom

Test Tube
A thin glass tube closed at one end, used to hold small amounts of material for laboratory testing or experiments

Test Tube Rack
Holds 5-6 test-tubes in a row

Tirrill Burner
Used to heat substances; allows for adjusting gas and air supply

Bunsen Burner
Used to heat substances

Buchner Funnel
Porous, flat bottomed funnel used for vacuum filtration

Wire Gauze (with or without ceramic center)
Used to support a container (such as a beaker or flask) during heating

Hot Plate
An electrical device used to heat substances

Beral (Plastic) Pipet
Used to transfer small amounts of liquid from one area to another

Long Stem Funnel
Used to deposit liquids into containers

Short Stem Funnel
Used for simple gravity filtrations

Test Tube Holder
Spring metal; used to hold test tubes or glass tubing

Buret Clamp/Test Tube Clamp
Used to hold apparatus, may be fastened to the ring stand

Well Plate
Used to observe many reactions in small volume

Weigh Boat
Used to weigh or transfer chemicals (usually dry)

Crucible and Cover
Porcelain; used to heat small amounts of solid substances at high temperatures

Crucible Tongs
Used to pick up and hold small items or to hold the crucible

Hot Vessel Gripper
Used to pick up hot glassware

pH Paper
A piece of paper that changes colors depending on the amount of H+ ions in a solution and indicates the pH of the solution

Ring Stand and Ring Clamp
Stand/clamp used to secure lab equipment for experiments

Filter Flask
Used in conjunction with a vacuum connection to a water faucet to speed up filtration

Striker (Flint Lighter)
Used to light Bunsen burner

Beaker Tongs
Used to move a hot beaker

Scoopula
Used to transfer solid chemicals

Metal Spatula
Used to scoop and transport powders

Clay Triangle
Wire frame with porcelain supports; used to support a crucible

Forceps
Used to pick up or hold small items

Plastic Stirring Rod
Used to mix or stir substances

Wash Bottle
Used to dispense distilled water

Rubber Policeman
A hard tipped rubber scraper used to transfer precipitate

Test Tube (Glassware) Brush
Used to clean test tubes or other glassware

Mortar and Pestle
Used to grind solids into powders

Watch Glass
Glass; used to cover an evaporating dish or beaker

Evaporating Dish
Porcelain; used to evaporate liquids from a mixture

Faucet Aspirator
Used with the Buchner funnel and filter flask during filtration

Buret
A graduated glass tube with a tap at one end, for delivering known volumes of a liquid, especially in titrations

Volumetric Pipet
Glass; common sizes are 10 mL, 25 mL; used to measure solution volumes accurately; must not be heated

Magnetic Stirrer (Stir Station)
Used for dissolving chemicals to form solutions

Stir Bar and Retriever
Magnetic bar used in the stir station; retriever used to get stir bar out of container without touching any chemical

Volumetric Flask
Used for making solutions of precise volumes

Analytical Balance (to 0.0001 g)
A device for determining mass that gives extremely accurate measurements

Electronic Balance (to 0.01 g)
A device that measures mass

Pipet Filler
Used to draw liquids into a pipet

Glass Stirring Rod
Used to mix or stir substances; made of glass to resist heat, stains, corrosion
