What are intensive properties?
Properties that do not depend on the amount of the substance present.
Give an example of an extensive property.
Mass.
What is a chemical property?
Any characteristic that can be determined only by changing a substance's identity.
Define reactivity in terms of chemical properties.
The likelihood of a substance to undergo a chemical reaction.
What is toxicity?
How poisonous or damaging a chemical substance may be to organisms.
What is flammability?
Whether a substance will burn when exposed to a flame.
What is the difference between a physical change and a chemical change?
Physical change does not alter the substance's molecular composition, whereas a chemical change results in a new substance.
What indicates a chemical change has occurred?
Change in color, odor, formation of gas, formation of a solid, or change in energy.
What is an exothermic reaction?
A reaction that releases heat and energy.
What does an endothermic reaction do?
Absorbs heat and/or energy to complete its reaction.
