Dreams

Day residue
The phenomenon where experiences from waking life spill over into dreams.
Manifest content
The actual, literal content of a dream as recalled by the dreamer.
Latent content
The hidden psychological meaning of a dream, according to Freud.
Activation-synthesis model
A theory suggesting dreams result from the brain's attempt to make sense of neural activity during sleep.
Evolved threat-rehearsal strategies
The idea that dreams simulate threatening events to help individuals rehearse coping mechanisms.
Hypnosis
