Primary Emotions

these are basic instinctive emotions, that arise immediately after a stimulus joy, fear, sadness, anger, surprise, disgust.

Secondary emotions

These are complex emotions responses that are caused due to an original reaction that are acquired through personal experience

goodness of fit

The match between a child’s temperament and the environmental demands with which the child must cope

securely attached

A child that uses a caregiver as a secure base to explore environment. Protest mildly during departure but adapt after. At return display happiness either continue or follow caregiver

insecure avoidant

A child avoids their caregiver. Babies engage a little with caregivers but is usually avoidant. They are not distressed when they leave.

insecure resistant

A child that often clings but will also fight against closeness. cry loudly and then push away from comfort

insecure disorganized

A child that appears confused, dazed, and fearful towards caregivers

Temperament

An individual’s difference in behavioral styles, emotions, and characteristic ways of responding.

Easy Child

A child is generally positive and able to quickly establish regular routines. Easily adaptable.

Difficult child

A child that reacts negatively and cries frequently. Slow to accept change and does not follow routine

slow to warmup child

A child that is negative and low intensity. Have a low activity level
