Violence
The intentional use of physical force or power, threatened or actual, against oneself, another person, or a group.
Self-Harm
Deliberate behavior intended to cause physical harm to one's own body.
Coping Skills
Behavioral and cognitive strategies used to manage stressful or challenging situations.
Resiliency
The ability to recover quickly from difficulties; psychological toughness and adaptability.
Intentional Injuries
Injuries resulting from purposeful human actions, whether directed at oneself (self-harm) or others (assault, bullying).
Unintentional Injuries
Injuries caused by accidents without any malice or deliberate intent to harm, such as drowning or vehicular accidents.
Protective Factors
Positive conditions or characteristics that reduce risks, neutralize negative influences, and promote overall well-being.
Resilience (Protective Factor)
The ability to manage emotional distress and actively find solutions to tough situations.
Social Connection
Having supportive friends, family members, and community peers who provide an emotional safety net.
Socio-Emotional Competence
The capacity to positively interact with others, communicate clearly, and express feelings effectively.
Concrete Support in Times of Need
Knowing exactly when, where, and to whom you can turn for immediate resources and help.
Knowledge of One's Rights
Holding accurate information about legal, human, and school rights to firmly hold your ground.
Positive Reframing
The use of internal scripts or self-talk statements to actively alter negative thought loops depending on the situation.
Physical Signs of Active Self-Harm
Unexplained cutting, bruising, burning, hitting, or scratching, often appearing as frequent, parallel linear marks.
Inappropriate Clothing (Red Flag)
Wearing thick sweaters, hoodies, or long pants in sweltering weather, often to conceal healing wounds or marks.
Indirect Cries for Help
Submitting dark, visceral art/writing themed around self-destruction or expressing statements of profound worthlessness.
Farewell Behaviors
Systematically giving away cherished personal belongings, pens, or favorite items without cause.
