Input
the starting number or value that you put into a function or operation to get a result
Output
the final result or value produced after you apply a function's rule to an input
Function
a rule or relationship that pairs each input value with one and only one unique output value
Discrete Relation
a connection or rule that links individual, separate elements of one set to elements of another set using a set of ordered pairs
Reflection
a geometric transformation that flips a figure over a line to create a mirror image
Function Composition
an operation where you combine two functions by putting the output of one function into the input of another
Continuous Relation
A continuous relationship in math isa connection between two values where the data can be broken down into infinite fractions and decimals, shown on a graph as an unbroken, connected line or curve
Dilation
a geometric transformation that changes the size of a figure without changing its shape
Function Notation
a standardized way of writing a function to show its name, input variable, and rule by replacing \(y\) with an expression like \(f(x)\)
Domain
of a function is the complete set of all possible input values (usually represented by \(x\)) that can be plugged into the function to get a valid output
Transformation
a function or operation that moves, turns, flips, or changes the size of a shape to create a new figure
Asymptote
a straight line that the graph of a function approaches closer and closer as it heads toward infinity, without ever actually touching or crossing the line
Evaluate
to find a single numerical value for a mathematical expression
Range
the spread of a data set in statistics, or the set of output values for a function
Translation
a geometric transformation that slides a shape or point from one location to another without changing its size, shape, or orientation
Parent Function
the most basic, simplest equation of a family of functions that has no transformations applied to it
