Who was Abraham Maslow and what theory did he develop?
Abraham Maslow was an American psychologist who developed a theory suggesting that people have different types of needs arranged in a hierarchy that influence their behavior and motivation.
How is a "hierarchy" defined in the context of Maslow's theory?
A system arranged from lower to higher levels.
What are the five levels of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, from lowest to highest level?

What are physiological needs in Maslow's Hierarchy?
The basic biological needs required for survival, including water, food, oxygen, sleep, shelter, and warmth.
What are safety needs in Maslow's Hierarchy?
The needs to feel safe, secure, and protected, including physical safety, a stable environment, protection from harm, predictability, and security.
What are love and belonging needs in Maslow's Hierarchy?
The needs for connection and relationships, including family, friendship, love, acceptance, belonging, and intimacy.
What are esteem needs in Maslow's Hierarchy?
The needs to feel valued, capable, and respected, including confidence, achievement, recognition, respect, and feeling competent.
What is self-actualization in Maslow's Hierarchy?
The process of developing one's abilities and reaching one's potential, including personal growth, creativity, purpose, and pursuing goals.
Must a person completely satisfy one level of Maslow's Hierarchy before experiencing the next level?
No. People can experience multiple needs at the same time (e.g., a student can be hungry and still want friendship, achievement, and personal growth).
What question should professionals ask when evaluating a child's behavior?
Instead of asking "What's wrong with this child?", professionals should ask "What might this child need?" because behavior may communicate an unmet need.
What are the four developmental domains mentioned in the notes?
Physical development, cognitive development, social development, and emotional development.
What is the difference between reviewing and studying according to the lecture notes?
Reviewing involves reading notes, looking at examples, and rereading vocabulary. Studying involves trying to remember, explain, and apply information without looking at the answer.
What are the six steps of the study process outlined in the notes?
Study → Cover → Recall → Check → Correct → Repeat.
