When does Hemiplegic Shoulder Pain (HSP) begin?

2-3 months after stroke

What is a risk factor for developing HSP following stroke?

Reduced arm motor function at time of stroke or during rehab

HSP is more sever with what sided hemiplegia?

Left sided hemiplegia

Shoulder subluxation, RC injury, impaired sensation, hemispatial neglect spasticity and flaccid paralysis

What are the predictors of HSP?(7)

Age(<70), female gender, increased tone, sensory impairment, left sided hemiparesis, hemorrhagic stroke, hemispatial neglect, Poor NIHSS score

Is there a link between Complex regional pain syndrome and HSP and adhesive capsulitis?
