Pharmacology
the study of the use and effects of drugs.
Administration
the process of giving a drug to a person
Absorption
How the drug moves from where it is administered into the bloodstream
Distribution
How the drug moves from the bloodstream into body tissues
Metabolism
How the drug is broken down by the body as time passes.
Excretion
How the drug leaves the body.
Class
Groups of drugs based on their indications and/or based on the action of the drug in the body.
Indication
The medical condition that a drug is used to treat.
Route
The way a medication is given, or administered.
Effects
The intended action of a drug.
Side effects
The unintended action of a drug.
Local effects
The action of a drug at the site of administration, whether intended or unintended.
Systemic effects
The action of a drug on all body systems internally, whether intended or unintended.
Idiosyncratic drug reaction
A type of reaction that cannot be predicted or is unusual, such as hypersensitivity or allergic reaction.
Anaphylactic reaction (anaphylaxis)
An idiosyncratic reaction that is life threatening and may occur within seconds or up to 30 minutes after a drug is given.
