DNA Replication
The process of making a copy of the DNA molecule during the cell cycle.
Semi-conservative Replication
The concept that each new DNA molecule created during replication contains one parental DNA strand and one new DNA strand.
Initiation
The beginning stage of DNA replication where helicases bind to the replication origin and unravel the DNA double helix.
Elongation
The process in DNA replication where DNA polymerase adds nucleotides in the 5' to 3' direction to create a complementary DNA strand.
Termination
The final stage of DNA replication where the newly formed DNA strands are complete and the replication process ends.
Proofreading
The function of DNA polymerase to recognize and correct mismatches in nucleotides during DNA replication.
